Intricate Doors

There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.
— Aldous Leonard Huxley

Italy’s monuments, churches and even residential houses have some of the most intricate doors and windows that I have ever seen. As I travelled through this beautiful country, I realised that these doors and windows, along with their surroundings, offer a glimpse into the rich history of the people who built these structures, people who occupy them today, as well as an insight into the history of religion in Italy. Because of the richness of these doors and widows, we can choose to form our perceptions of the people behind these doors without ever meeting or listening to them, but if we do, we will never truly know what is unknown to us about these people.
